Welcome to EMFscientist.org
EMFscientist.org is dedicated to the International Electromagnetic Field Scientist Appeal.
On May 11, 2015, the Appeal was submitted to
His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations;
Honorable Dr. Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization;
Honorable Achim Steiner, Executive Director of the U.N. Environmental Programme;
U.N. Member Nations
These findings justify our appeal to the United Nations (UN) and, all member States in the world, to encourage the World Health Organization (WHO) to exert strong leadership in fostering the development of more protective EMF guidelines, encouraging precautionary measures, and educating the public about health risks, particularly risk to children and fetal development. By not taking action, the WHO is failing to fulfil its role as the preeminent international public health agency. Finally, this appeal calls upon the United Nations Environmental Programme, who serves as the “voice for the environment”, to evaluate the scientific evidence and propose more protective practices.
As of January 29, 2017, the Appeal has 224 signatures from 41 nations.
Statement on the U.S. National Toxicology Program that reports cell phones cause cancer by the Advisors to the International EMF Scientist Appeal"This $25 million study, executed by the U.S. government, provides support for what we are stating in the 'International EMF Scientist Appeal' that precautionary approach should be exercised and lower electromagnetic field exposure guidelines should be set".
A partial release of this study, conducted by U.S. National Institutes of Health’s National Toxicology Program is found at http://biorxiv.org/content/early/2016/05/26/055699. Selected news stories related to the study may be viewed on our media page.
The International EMF Scientist Appeal was initially signed by 190 scientists from 39 nations. All of these scientists have published peer-reviewed papers on the biological or health effects of non-ionizing radiation, part of the EMF spectrum that includes Extremely Low Frequency fields (ELF) used for electricity, or Radio Frequency radiation (RFR) used for wireless communications.
First, we invite you to view Dr. Martin Blank’s three-minute video announcing the Appeal. Dr. Blank has had over 30 years of experience conducting EMF research at Columbia University and is a past president of the International Bioelectromagnetics Society. In his own words, Dr. Blank gives a compelling explanation of the major health crisis we are facing due to increasing levels of environmental pollution from growing and expanding EMF sources.
The International EMF Scientist Appeal calls upon the United Nations, the WHO, UNEP and the UN Member States to:
- address the emerging public health crisis related to cell phones, wireless devices, wireless utility meters and wireless infrastructure in neighborhoods; and
- urge that the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) initiate an assessment of alternatives to current exposure standards and practices that could substantially lower human exposures to non-ionizing radiation.
UNEP is the UN’s “voice for the environment” and is uniquely positioned to take a planetary view of the potential for harm that EMF pollution presents to biology -- the evolution, health, well being and very survival of all living organisms world-wide. EMF scientists are giving warnings about clear signs of adverse biological and health problems that are affecting people and nature. Now is the time to ask serious questions about this emerging environmental health crisis.
EMFscientist.org will keep you up to date on the Appeal, reactions by from world leaders, policy decision-makers, and media coverage. We will inform you of significant scientific and policy developments that show progress we see being made towards our overall goal: to achieve greater protection from non-Ionizing electromagnetic field exposure.
The list of signators to the International EMF Scientist Appeal will to be added to by EMF scientists who qualify as they have published peer-reviewed papers on EMF and biology or health.
A second list of "Concerned scientists who have published peer reviewed papers in related fields" is posted on the Appeal page, below the EMF scientist signatures.
